1. Go square
When Buffer investigated the performance of square videos in comparison to landscape, there were significant differences in their average engagement. But why? Well, since video consumption on mobile has increased, the likelihood is that your audience is viewing your videos on the go, so you need to dominate the screen and make yourselves be seen.
2. Make your content count
Facebook videos auto-play in order to catch the attention of users, so the first three seconds have to count. Even without sound, it is essential for your video to be powerful, and with a description that teases the viewer to watch. Don’t waste time in capturing their attention and pique their interest from the very beginning.
3. Add captions
Despite Facebook using its auto-play feature to catch the attention of scrollers, it is unclear how many people watch videos with their sound switched on. Adding captions to your videos allows viewers to engage with your content, even when they’re viewing with their phone on silent.
4. Keep your content focussed
As well as engaging viewers, you want your video to be shareable. Make your video as concise as possible and keep it focussed on one point. If your video is easily summarised and easily understood, users will want to share it. If they aren’t sure what you’re talking about or if you’re trying to fit too much into one video, users will simply scroll on by.
5. Add a call to action
A call to action (CTA) is a great way to encourage users to do something. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a CTA to sign up during your video, but with the opportunity to add a CTA in your post copy you can encourage viewers to take action.
