They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but the reality is, people do; and they’re intrigued by what they see.

Not only in the digital agency sphere, but companies across the globe are being judged on a daily basis; whether it’s on their appearance or the quality of their products and services. But more now than ever, customers have an inside view of your business – which is essentially the concept of the ‘glass box’.

Your business’ walls are becoming more and more transparent

Currently, social media and the internet has made nearly everything visible to the public – you can even see how much a business is earning online.

Just through a company’s website and social media, you can gage how many employers are at the company and gain an understanding of the culture and values of that organisation. Companies rely on forming a positive relationship with their customers, and the glass box concept certainly has an effect on this.

You’re there to be seen – so be mindful of how you come across

The now transparent nature of company walls makes it significant for businesses to reinforce and reflect a society where their staff are happy to work, comfortable with their peers, and possess a positive working attitude.

For customers on the outside to see the natural personality of a business, it’s really encouraging and could even be a major factor in their decision to work with you. Being natural and honest is extremely important.

Are you working on your company’s image?

This isn’t to say that you should be playing up to the fact that people can see into your business; it’s not like you’re standing in a shop window, but that’s not the worst way to look at it!

For me as a designer here at EC, our representation to you is imperative. I want the best graphics and images to be across all of our online platforms. That is why we have a set standard for all of our images and graphics. But it’s not only our imagery which is seen, it’s everything from our website content to social media posts.
